Scalp Micropigmentation in Atlanta, GA

Serving Tucker, Decatur, Chamblee, & Brookhaven, GA

Dr. Hill and her team use medical scalp micropigmentation (mSMP) rather than the traditional SMP practiced by many facilities. mSMP is a medically-managed approach to SMP, where pigment that matches a patient’s hair color is introduced superficially into the scalp to produce results that replicate the size and density of your hair follicles. The SOCAH Center uses meticulously selected medical-grade pigments that are carcinogenic-free, mutagenic-free, natural and hypoallergenic.

Why is mSMP better?

Medical oversight in a medical practice ensures that your scalp is healthy enough to respond to micropigmentation, thus providing optimal results. Rashes, excessive dryness, and other skin conditions can negatively affect the scalp’s ability to absorb the pigment correctly. If necessary, the patient may need to have an office visit to be assessed by Dr. Hill prior to conducting a patch test. If an office visit is necessary, Dr. Hill will create an individualized scalp care regimen that ensures your scalp is healthy before initiating mSMP. Once Dr. Hill clears you the SOCAH Certified Scalp Micro-pigmentation specialist will then perform a patch test for your scalp before proceeding. This is done to ensure there are no concerns for an allergic reaction to the pigments.

Dr. Hill’s medical expertise also enables her to diagnose possible reversible hair loss disorders that might be playing a role in your thinning hair, such as alopecia areata or telogen effluvium. If so, she’ll design a treatment plan to address these conditions.

How long does it take?

The length of a session depends on the size of the area being treated. Smaller spots can be treated within 45 minutes while treating a full head could take 3-5 hours. The number of sessions will depend on how much density is able to be achieved during each session.

Does the color change over time?

Dr. Hill and her team of SOCAH Certified Scalp Micro-pigmentation specialists have mastered the ability to select the pigment that closely matches your natural color all while preventing that “blue shoe polish” look less skilled clinicians can leave you with. During the first few weeks following the procedure, the pigment will fade slightly to the desired shade. It is considered a semi-permanent change, but it is possible the color will fade over time due to aging, exposure to direct sunlight, and different types of scalp and skin cleaning products. However, touch-ups can be performed to enhance the color when necessary. Revisions can also be made to keep the alterations looking soft and natural as your hairline changes.
